Dunk Duel: A Free 2 Player Basketball Game
Dunk Duel is a free 1v1 basketball game you can play in your browser against the computer or against a friend on the same keyboard or phone. Every player is a floppy physics character: they hop, wobble, crash into each other and sometimes fall flat on their face. You control everything with a single button, so it takes seconds to learn and a lot longer to master.
Each match also draws a chaos card that changes the rules. One game you are playing on the moon, the next the ball is the size of a beach ball, the court is made of ice or the lights go out. No two duels play the same way.
How to Play
- Hold to move: while you hold the button your player keeps hopping toward the action. With the ball they head for the hoop, without it they chase the ball or guard the other player.
- Let go to shoot: releasing the button while you have the ball takes a shot. Let go at the very top of your jump for a perfect release, which is far more accurate than a shot from the floor.
- Dunk it: keep holding as you fly at the rim and your player throws it down. Dunks always count.
- Defend: holding the button also raises your arms. Get them on the ball to strip it or get a hand on a shot to block it.
- Scoring: 2 points for a basket and 3 for a shot from behind the three-point line. First to 5 wins (7 in the tournament final), and if the clock runs out on a tie the next basket wins.
Controls for 1 and 2 Players
On a computer, Player 1 uses W or the Space bar. In 2 player mode, Player 2 uses the Up arrow. On a phone or tablet, hold the big button under the court, or tap and hold anywhere on the court. In 2 player mode on a phone each player gets their own button, so you can play side by side on one screen.
Press P or Esc to pause. The game also pauses by itself if you switch tabs.
Game Modes
- 1 Player: a quick match against the CPU on Easy, Normal or Hard.
- Tournament: eight opponents, each one smarter than the last, finishing with a first-to-7 final. Win it to unlock a secret player and the Rooftop court.
- 2 Players: two people, one device. Great for settling an argument.
- Daily Duel: everyone gets the same boss, court and chaos card each day. Your first game of the day is your official result, and you can share it.
Players, Courts and Coins
Every match earns coins, with extra for dunks and threes. Spend them to unlock new players with their own strengths: Iceman Ike barely misses, Pogo Pete lives above the rim, Big Tuna knocks people over and Granny Gloria is slow but deadly. Courts include The Arena, a street court, a school gym and a beach court. Your progress is saved on your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dunk Duel free?
Yes. It's free, there is nothing to download and no account to make. It runs in any modern browser on a computer, Chromebook, tablet or phone.
Can two people play on one computer?
Yes. Choose 2 Players: Player 1 uses W and Player 2 uses the Up arrow. On a phone or tablet each player gets a button on their side of the screen.
How do I make more shots?
Shoot closer to the hoop and let go at the top of your jump. Shots from the floor, shots while you are tilted and shots with a defender's hands up are all less accurate. If you are near the rim, keep holding and go for the dunk.
What are chaos cards?
Each match can draw a random rule change such as Moon Gravity, Big Heads, Ice Court, Noodle Arms or Lights Out. You can switch chaos off in the menu if you want a classic game.
Are these real NBA players?
No. Every character in Dunk Duel is an original creation. For real NBA players, try our Hoop Grid or the Random NBA Player Generator.
