What the basketball rules quiz covers

The questions follow the rules you see called in almost every NBA game. The timing rules come first: the 24-second shot clock and its 14-second reset after an offensive rebound, and the 8-second backcourt rule for getting the ball past half court. The quiz also asks about the 3-second rule, including the defensive version that only the NBA uses.

Next come fouls and conduct. Two questions check what happens after technical fouls and flagrant fouls, and one asks where a clean block ends and goaltending begins.

The last group is about the floor itself: the size of an NBA court and the distance and history of the 3-point line. If you miss a question, our Basketball Basics guides explain each rule in full.

    How the quiz works

There are 10 multiple-choice questions with four options each. After every answer you see the right call and a short fact, so you learn something even when you miss. At the end you get a score, a ranking and a full list of answers. Your best score is saved in your browser, so you can come back and try to beat it.
